Our mission is to put philanthropy into action to create lasting solutions that result in vibrant communities within the Greater Hartford region. We are committed to advancing equity by removing barriers to opportunity so that all residents can reach their full potential and the entire region can thrive.
Achieving this requires that we utilize a variety of tools and approaches, including:
Grantmaking
We make grants to mission and outcome-aligned nonprofits serving Greater Hartford; these grants are informed by the evolving needs of our community, as well as our vision for a more equitable region.
Nonprofit Capacity Building
We support the stability, effectiveness and resilience of local nonprofits and their leaders by providing learning opportunities and funding to advance their mission.
Scholarships
In partnership with Hartford Promise, we support young leaders of tomorrow through our scholarship and wraparound support program, the Greater Futures Scholarship Fund. Our donors can also create their own Individual Scholarship Funds or contribute to our Community College Scholarship Fund.
Community Leadership
We lead our region and state by convevening stakeholders to share experiences and knowledge, improving availability of high-quality data to inform solutions, and piloting innovations that address disparities.
Learning and Evaluation
We use data to inform our work and the work of our partners as we make progress toward our strategic priorities. We collaborate with data experts and researchers to improve data collection and its dissemination. The information we collect guides organizational decision-making as we strive to dismantle structural racism to drive broad systemic change.
Public Policy
We work closely with state and local policymakers—sharing insights and expertise—to shape policies and the allocation of resources in ways that have a lasting impact on residents throughout Greater Hartford. We form partnerships and bring together leaders across our region for positive change.
Donor Collaboration
We help donors who are passionate about their communities translate their gifts into meaningful initiatives that leave a lasting impact on the region. There are many ways donors can contribute, including creating their own fund, joining a Giving Circle, or investing in our strategic priorities.
Investments
We uphold our commitment to Greater Hartford with a $1.2 billion endowment that sustains our organization and allows us to grant up to $50 million each year to community organizations while also securing funds for the future. Since our founding, we have invested over $1 billion in our region. Our careful financial stewardship make all our work possible.
